RHA Health Services recently launched our “Get My Me Back” campaign, focusing on how the right mental health treatment can help you regain all the special parts of life that make you feel like your authentic, joyful self. While mental illness and substance use can isolate you, we can support you to reclaim the activities, work, and community that give you purpose and make you happy. To show that healing and recovery are within reach, Angela shares her story.

Angela has attended RHA’s Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient Program (SAIOP) in North Carolina for over a year. When she arrived for the program, she immediately knew RHA was different from the treatments she had tried before. Intake was fast and Angela felt she could trust RHA staff to be honest with her. SAIOP treatment includes structured individual, group, and family therapy, case management support, substance use education, and relapse prevention planning. For over a year, Angela has met three times a week with her counselor.

Angela also receives support from RHA’s Community Support Team (CST). CST services use a team approach to assist adults in achieving their recovery goals; they amplify coping skills, bolster social supports, refine symptom and medication management, aid in employment and housing attainment, and mitigate crises such as hospitalizations or incarcerations. Angela thanks RHA staff — Chelsey, Hillary, and Jenna, among others — for helping her seek and maintain recovery. “They are so smart and let us really be ourselves. They teach us to love ourselves and help me understand my issues with alcohol. All the RHA staff truly makes us feel like family,” says Angela.

Through SAIOP and CST, Angela says she has built a village and no longer feels alone. She has developed deep connections with people going through struggles like hers. She says, “I truly feel blessed and happy to go to every meeting. Listening to each other and spending time together shows us that everyone can create a path to happiness without substances.” Angela has changed her life by building a support system and committing to consistent treatment. She has improved her coping skills that help her make wise decisions. Angela says, “I would recommend SAIOP and CST to anyone who needs mental health support. The RHA staff is so loving and caring.”
