Located on the lower level of the Asheville Comprehensive Care Center, the Behavioral Health Urgent Care offers a no-appointment-necessary solution for people experiencing behavioral health crises. Once you arrive, Behavioral Health Urgent Care staff will greet you and listen as you share information about your current situation and needs. Then, you will learn about options for treatment, support, and resources.

If you’re experiencing a behavioral health crisis, you will participate in a crisis assessment with a behavioral health professional and registered nurse. A brief evaluation will inform our treatment recommendations to connect you with the most appropriate services to meet your needs today.

If you’re in need of additional support, Behavioral Health Urgent Care staff members can help you develop a discharge plan as you leave the Urgent Care to stay safe at home or with family/friends and return for follow-up crisis or outpatient services the next day.

If it’s determined that you need in-patient stabilization, you may be transferred to our mental health and substance use crisis center, the Neil Dobbins Center, which is in the same building as the Behavioral Health Urgent Care. The Neil Dobbins Center provides services for individuals withdrawing from alcohol and/or drugs, those in need of mental health stability, or a combination of both. Once there, you will have a secure and comfortable place to stay while you continue to participate in assessment and treatment.

The Neil Dobbins Center (NDC) is a facility-based crisis center that offers 24-hour care lasting up to seven days and includes medication and meals in a safe environment. Admission eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis.

The NDC provides immediate, intensive, and compassionate support services to individuals experiencing acute crisis situations. The facility is designed to offer a safe and supportive environment where people can receive immediate assistance during a critical time, with the goal of stabilizing individuals and helping them begin the process of recovery or transition to long-term solutions.

Once admitted, an array of services are provided, including ongoing assessment, Medication-Assisted Treatment Therapies (MATT), Peer Support Services, individual and group therapy, case management, and additional services as needed to help you establish your strengths and plan for recovery.

Having the understanding and guidance of someone who has “been there” before can be a tremendous help on your path towards recovery and wellness. RHA’s Peer Living Room (PLR) is a safe, comfortable, welcoming space where you can participate in activities that support your personal journey while engaging with and supporting others who are also in recovery.

RHA Certified Peer Support Specialists (CPSS) support the Peer Living Room’s operation and are available to talk with you individually and to lead classes for group support and information sharing. Participants practice respect for each person’s journey, participate in activities, and learn more about community resources.
