Keisha Celebrates 30 Years of Direct Support with RHA

Keisha Carrington, Direct Support Supervisor, recently celebrated 30 years with RHA Health Services! We reached out to Keisha to hear more about her tenure with us. 

Describe your career journey with RHA and your current position. 

Keisha: I started with Howell Center Clear Creek on September 11, 1995. I was moving to Charlotte, NC from West Virginia and needed a job. I thought I would like to work with people needing assistance navigating through their daily lives. I immediately had a connection with the people of Clear Creek. In the early 2000’s, I became a manager. My work has provided me with opportunities to do my best and gain leadership skills. My hard work has been recognized, so I have stayed with RHA. 

What about RHA has inspired you to dedicate 30 years of service? 

Keisha: I remain at Clear Creek because of the people we serve and the people I work with. For me, this work is more than a job. Like anything, it has its rough moments, but at Clear Creek, I am not alone in dealing with those moments. I have established a team of support providers for myself. For me, these are the pillars of Clear Creek: John Ward, who is always there (and I mean always there), Demetrik Wilson, who makes the job enjoyable and is an upstanding person, and Garga Tapeh, who has become a good friend to me. These people are just a few of the people who work with me who have become more than coworkers. There are many more people that have become essential in my life at Clear Creek and have made this place such an important part of my life. 

What is your favorite memory of working with RHA? 

Keisha: One of the best memories was taking a teenage girl to her first concert and allowing her to operate as much as possible like a typical teenager. Some of my most memorable moments come from working through challenges, like seeing people who were at first resistant to care learn that they can trust us to be there for them.
