On June 17, 2026, RHA Prevention Resource Centers’ Prevention Coordinator, Kimberly McDonald, participated in the First Annual North Carolina Prevention Advocacy Day at the North Carolina Legislative Building in Raleigh.

During the event, Kimberly had the opportunity to meet with staff from the offices of Senator Warren Daniel and Representative Jake Johnson to share information about the substance use prevention initiatives taking place throughout the communities we serve. Discussions highlighted the importance of prevention education, youth leadership, community coalitions, environmental strategies, and collaborative partnerships that help create healthier and safer communities.

Prevention professionals serve as valuable resources for legislators and their staff by providing local data, sharing community trends, connecting constituents to prevention resources, and offering insight into the challenges and successes occurring at the local level. We appreciate the opportunity to build relationships, increase awareness of prevention efforts, and support informed decision-making that benefits North Carolina communities.

Thank you to Community Impact NC, NC DHHS, and to everyone who helped make the First Annual North Carolina Prevention Advocacy Day a success. Together, we can continue strengthening prevention efforts and promoting healthy choices across our state.
