Roger Jones, IDD Regional Director of Business Operations, recently celebrated 30 years with RHA Health Services! We reached out to Roger to hear more about his tenure with us.

Describe your career journey with RHA and your current position.

Roger: “I joined RHA Bear Creek in 1988 as a Direct Support Professional. I worked as an RHA DSP for several years before taking a job at another company. I returned to RHA Bear Creek on February 1, 1996, as the Assistant to the Director of Residential Services. I have held many positions while working here for the past 30 years. I have been the Director of Residential Services at Bear Creek, Director of Training for RHA, Director of Operations for RHA over the Eastern locations, Vice President of Operations over the Eastern region and currently work as the IDD Director of Business Operations for RHA.

As the IDD Director of Business Operations, I help with financial planning and oversight by ensuring that enhanced rates for individuals that need additional support are submitted on time. I review the IDD Dashboard daily to help monitor RHA’s labor utilization, and I work with the Senior VP and VP of Operations to review budgets, review daily hours and overtime, and look for trends and areas that we can improve our daily performance. I also work with RHA’s vendors to ensure quality services, and as needed, I work with new Executive Directors to help them understand how the budget process works.”

What about RHA has inspired you to dedicate 30 years of service?

Roger: “One of the anchors of RHA is passion. That is what has inspired me to this day – a love for the people we support and a passion for making a difference in their lives every day. I have learned to celebrate the small things in life. I’m inspired by seeing smiles on the faces of those we support and knowing that each one of us makes a difference in their lives.”

Describe a time you made a difference in someone’s life through your work.

Roger: “I have many stories I could share but I will say this: I was about to leave this field and try something else when I met a little six-year-old girl. I was able to make a small difference in her life, but the difference she made in my life is the reason that I do what we do daily. I learned what it meant to love unconditionally. I learned how to celebrate the small things in life such as being able to pick up an object, take a step with assistance for the first time, learning to eat with assistance, and many other daily living skills that I used to take for granted. Winston Churchill said that ‘We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.’ I have found this to be true as we serve and support the people that live at RHA.”

What is your favorite memory of working with RHA?

Roger: “I have so many favorite memories. Once, I got the opportunity to plan and go on a field trip to a live pro wrestling match with two young men who loved pro wrestling. They had the time of their lives cheering for the good guys and booing for the bad guys! That was 30 years ago and to this very day, when I see these two young men, they still talk about that trip we had and how much it meant to them to go on that outing. It made a difference in their life and mine as well.”

Congratulations, Roger! Your passion and care are evident in your work, and we’re proud to celebrate this career milestone with you.
