What is a Facility-Based Crisis Center?

These centers provide immediate, intensive, and compassionate support services to individuals experiencing acute crisis situations. Designed to offer a safe and supportive environment where people can receive immediate assistance during a critical time, the facilities have the goal of stabilizing individuals and helping them begin the process of recovery or transition to long-term solutions.

The comprehensive care and expertise offered by these centers not only help individuals regain stability but also empower them on their journey to improved mental and physical well-being. In times of crisis and vulnerability, RHA’s facility-based mental health and substance use crisis centers offer compassionate care and a path toward recovery and renewal.

Neil Dobbins Center

For more than three decades, the Neil Dobbins Center (NDC) has served as a leading facility-based crisis center in Asheville, dedicated to serving the communities of western North Carolina. The NDC is a facility that offers 24-hour care lasting up to seven days and includes medication and meals in a safe environment.

At NDC, we offer short-term, intensive therapeutic interventions and stabilization services tailored to individuals grappling with mental health and substance use crises. These services include ongoing assessments, Medication-Assisted Treatment Therapies (MATT), Peer Support Services, and therapy.

Foothills Regional Treatment Center

Foothills Regional Treatment Center (FRTC) resides within the Caldwell C3 Comprehensive Care Center, and offers facility-based mental health and substance use crisis services. The FRTC is a facility that offers 24-hour care lasting up to seven days and includes medication and meals in a safe environment. Admission eligibility is determined on a case-by-case basis.

Foothills Regional Treatment Center offers crisis services amidst the picturesque foothills of the western North Carolina mountains.

These crisis services include:

    • Short-term intensive evaluation and treatment
    • Medication-Assisted Treatment Therapies (MATT)
    • Behavior management to stabilize acute mental or behavioral health crisis situations
    • Detox services

The services are intended for individuals who are a risk to themselves or others, but who do not require seclusion or restraints.

Insurance Information

We can bill through Medicaid. Individuals with no coverage may receive services via State Funds. Benefit eligibility is based on an income scale. Individuals who self-pay are required to prepay for services. Private insurance is not accepted. If you have private insurance, please call your carrier for a list of covered providers.
